Sugar Hill

Sugar Hill’s place in history is based on the neighborhood having been a home base for the Harlem Renaissance, attracting icons such as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Thurgood Marshall and Adam Clayton Powell to live here. Even today, Sugar Hill remains a critical part of pop culture: a movie, a bottled beer, and a legendary rap band Sugarhill Gang all share in the fame. This NYC neighborhood is reputed for its real estate and architecture, and split up into three separate historic districts — the northwest, the northeast and the extension areas of Sugar Hill. Expect a heavy presence of landmarked buildings, given the variety of building styles, ranging from Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival and Renaissance Revival. Sugar Hill is technically a sub section in the northern part of Hamilton Heights, and its borders are thought to start at West 155th Street to the north and then 145th Street to the south. The petite neighborhood stretches from west to the east from Amsterdam to Edgecombe Avenues
