Dear Ideal, My roommate, Emma, and I recently worked with James Williams in our search for an apartment. I was so grateful for, and astounded by, James's service that I felt compelled to write to you to express my appreciation. Emma and I had been searching for apartments for three weeks when we met James. He was warm and professional. Within our first hour of working with him, I knew that James was far superior to other agents with whom I had previously worked. After Emma and I put in an application for an apartment with James, a real estate agent I had previously met with called to tell me that he had planned on showing us that specific apartment. Emma and I had cancelled our appointment with that agent and never saw the space with him. Even so, he claimed that we had broken our fee agreement with him. He proceeded to call and text me incessantly all afternoon, telling me that the apartment's landlord knew about the situation, and that we should be applying for the apartment through him. James was in constant contact with me during this time, speaking with the landlord, and working to resolve the situation. When the agent did not cease texting me after several hours, I began to feel uneasy. I felt his actions could be classified as harassment, and expressed this to James. James called the agent on my behalf. He very calmly and professionally spoke to him about the situation. I received no further messages from the previous agent, and was so grateful to James for how he handled the situation. As a single 25 year old woman with no nearby family, I am used to fighting battles on my own (and in New York City, there are plenty of small battles that manifest themselves daily). Having few to consistently rely on can be exhausting; when the situation with the disgruntled agent presented itself, I braced myself for another instance in which I would have to muster my strength and present my case to someone who had little intention of listening to me. Instead, James was my back up that day. I felt I could ask his professional advice on how to handle the situation, and he became my sounding board and representative. His service truly exceeded my expectations. Not only did he fulfill his role as real estate agent, but he gave me peace of mind. I will forever be appreciative for James's handling of that conflict My roommate and I soon found that we were able to quickly get approved and move into an apartment that we had seen before we met James. Desperately needing an apartment, we did so, but not without heavy hearts at the fact that we were not going through James. Had it not been for the unexpected and destructive involvement of the previous agent, James would have absolutely succeeded in finding us a perfect apartment. James remains the finest agent I have worked with, both in New York and in Boston, my previous city of residence. Dave put a lot of attention and care into helping me to find an apartment. He listened carefully to all of the things I was looking for in an apartment and I felt he really `got it`. Then he did searches for me frequently, zeroing in on the places that matched my criteria. The fact that he was searching for me relieved me of so much of the burden of looking. Dear Ideal, I wanted to let you know of the incredibly positive experience that my fiancee and I had while working with one of your realtors, Myles Stiffler, over the past few weeks. I first reached out to Myles regarding an apartment that was listed on the Ideal Properties website, and he responded with a phone call within minutes. We quickly developed a rapport over e-mail, and Myles spent two days over two weekends showing us apartments in Park Slope. I am writing to let you know how absolutely thrilled we were to have found Chris, thanks to whom we now have our great Windsor Terrace apartment. I'll be posting a review on yelp as well, but I understand you are Chris's supervisor, and it was important to me that you know what an absolutely stellar job Chris did. Our situation was a bit complicated, because we needed to find an apartment with a 6 month lease. Of all the brokers with whom I worked (and there were several), Chris was the only one who actually took our constraint seriously, and made a real and successful effort to talk to landlords in advance, and only show me apartments where this uncommon request could be accommodated. I know he even spoke to some landlords (including our current landlord) multiple times, to convince them to agree to this constraint. In addition, he was extremely and uncommonly helpful throughout, making every interaction with him a pleasure. When we signed our lease, he even gave us a beautiful card, as well as a gift to what is the very nicest cafe in our new neighborhood - his thoughtfulness was really incredible. We'll be leaving New York at the end of the summer, otherwise I would never again use another broker other than Chris. Christopher Duran was absolutely amazing. Courteous, hard-working, efficient and communicative. We needed a 6 month lease, which is very hard to find. Chris made sure to talk to the landlords about this in advance, so I would not waste anytime seeing apartments where this was not possible (something none of the other brokers I worked with bothered to do). He called our landlord several times, until he agreed to have us take the place. When we signed our lease, he even gave us a beautiful card with a personal note, and a gift card to the the very nicest cafe in our new neighborhood in WIndsor Terrace - he actually did the research to find out this info! His thoughtfulness was really incredible. The rental market here is really stressful, but Chris just made the whole experience work for us, I can`t recommend him highly enough.

Michael McGullam is a fantastic agent! When we started our search, we tried to work with several different agencies but found the agents to be uninterested in really getting to know us and what our needs were, uninvested in finding the "perfect" place and happy to sit and wait for us to pick up the phone and call them before they would reach out to us with opportunities. Working with Michael was a totally different experience! Most of all, we appreciated his patience, proactive approach, timely responses to our many questions, honest opinions and hard work scouring for places that would be great for us. From the very beginning he asked the right questions to understand what we were looking for - feeling like we had someone who "got us" took a lot of the pressure off. When we finally found the "just right" apartment, he was as excited as we were and, even through the final negotiation and lease-signing phase of the process, always seemed to be on "our side." He was really good at explaining why the landlord was doing or saying certain things and never made us feel bad about asking questions or pushing back. We highly recommend Ideal Properties Group, too, for being better than most at keeping their site updated with available listings - lots of other agencies in the area have sites that feature old (already taken) properties and don`t update with listings frequently. All in all, a great operation and a great agent. We highly recommend Michael and Ideal Properties Group!

Especially in a neighborhood known for its high-pressure brokers, "above and beyond" barely does justice to the incredible service I got from Lisa when I was looking for a one-bedroom in Park Slope. Her honesty and low-key style. Sensing that I was uncertain about this first apartment I considered applying for, she suggested I sleep on it before applying and lost the easy commission. Ultimately, I found the perfect apartment in a building whose management company required more ID, proof of income, proof of good credit, and so forth than anything she`d heard of before, and she guided me patiently and with good humor through a vetting process that took 8 hours in the office plus numerous faxes, phone calls and emails afterwards. I can`t say enough about her patience, professionalism, and kindness. Thank you!

"Apartment hunting" is hands down my least favorite thing to do, ever - it is so stressful, and the majority of rental agents with whom I`ve dealt have been slimy and obnoxiously "sales-y," the type that clearly doesn`t really care about what you`re actually looking for, pushing you towards less than IDEAL (look at that!) spaces for their commission. I didn`t encounter this attitude at all with Evan. While my boyfriend and I ended up finding an apartment elsewhere (got lucky and were able to work directly with an owner), Evan certainly did his job - he was patient, communicated with us actively, listened to our requests/needs, and worked to find a space that would work for us (even though I was panicky and relentlessly texting and changing plans). He was a pleasure to work with, and I would recommend him (and this company) to anyone looking for apartments in Brooklyn.

I had just returned from a 2 month trip to asia. 1 month before my family was to arrive at our new, yet to be obtained apartment. I explained to Evan at Ideal Properties that I was under tremendous time pressure to find a suitable dwelling fro my family, Even understood my urgency, and immediately went to work. I think we saw 7 apartments the first day we met. Over the following 2 weeks of my search, Evan was in constant contact we me. Keeping me updated as to new apartments that had just become available. I think Citysearch has Ideal in wrong category here - this is a real estate agency (not sure if they do management). In any case, Renee from Ideal is a rare find. We enjoyed our time with her looking at 14 apartments in Park Slope. One apartment was more beautiful than the next. She really listened to what we needed, and delivered. Always reachable by email and returning our phone calls. We have decided to extend our current lease, but we'll be back to Renee in six months' time. She's the only one of the Park Slope brokers we really trust after our month-long and quite frustrating search. We only wished we found her right away.

After hearing horror stories, we were bracing ourselves for a miserable time. Rich was extremely patient, did not try to sell us an apartment if he did not think it was a good deal, and also drove us around from place to place and spent two full days with us, on a holiday weekend, to accommodate our difficult schedules. He gave us straightforward advice even when it was not to his advantage. This will be one of those unusual testimonies. I am not a renter. I am a landlord of 12 unit rental bldg in Prospect Heights. I initially worked with the largest & most known brokerage firm in Brooklyn for our rentals as exclusive listing. However, looking at the situation with this brogerage, I switched exclusing listing to open listing and called Ideal Properties. Less than I week I have received an application. My pleasant surprise is not with this application. However, it was all agents prompt follow-up, the ability to bring clients, cordial manner, and yes execution that they were actually able to rent our units. Ideal is rather a new firm. My girlfriend and I looked at several apartments with Jen in the Fort Greene area. She knows the neighborhood and it shows. She was extremely sensitive to our wants and needs and was a pleasure to work with - her sense of humour and wit actually made this arduous process fun. After dealing with every possible variety of real estate sleaze over the past 9 years living in New York, stumbling upon Ideal Properties was like a light at the end of the tunnel. Not only are they totally professional and follow-up in a timely and comprehensible fashion, they have a few locations, where the agents can actually be found during work hours and even are open in the evenings and on weekends! Their documentation is immaculate, receipts for everything, no corners cut, and never any bullshit or hidden agendas. Their name perfectly represents their ethics - something that is rarely synonymous with real estate in the first place. I recommend working with Evan or Lance as I dealt with both of them. Justin, the guy in charge, was super attentive and honest, unlike most firms where the guy in charge is used as an excuse to inflate fees. (Sound familiar?!) We were in a rush, trying to find an apartment for less than a month away, and Andrew worked with our time frame showing us several apartments on the first day that we showed up (with no advance notice, as we were supposed to work with another broker who never showed). When we changed our criteria after that day, he went with it and knew of the perfect apartment in our new price range which we decided on the next day. We got the process done quickly and efficiently, and although it really sucks to pay a broker fee, it saved us a lot of time and effort.

PARIS SMITH at `Ideal Properties` was the seventh agent I met from the strip of agents on Park Slope`s 7th avenue. I had to find an apartment in the area to relocate from the UK within a week! Shinichi Morisawa is AMAZING! He was ALWAYS responsive, prompt, and helpful. He never pressured us and was happy to listen to our desires, which is rare in the broker world. Ideal made the sale of my condo in Carroll Gardens a great experience. Based on my previous experience with brokers in the area, I was expecting lack of communication and a broker slow to provide updates. Ideal's team was something else altogether. They did an outstanding job selling my condo. In this curious economy, they only needed two open houses to have my place in contract, and sold it a month and a half thereafter. Jennifer from Ideal always got back to me if I had any questions and was always on top of the paperwork that needed to be filled out. She always gave adequate notice about showings and open houses, and coordinated all visits, inspectors, lender, buyers, other brokers. I've never worked with a broker who was so open and willing to work with others just to make sure my condo sells!!!! You can't go wrong with Jennifer and Ideal as your broker!

Ryan Lanning helped me and my boyfriend find the perfect apartment. We just moved in four days ago and could not be happier. Ryan was thorough, knew what we were looking for and only showed us apartments that fit our neighborhood, budget and other requirements. He was very easy to get a hold of and stayed in constant contact with us throughout the application process. His manager was willing to negotiate the broker fee with us and took a percentage off. After a miscommunication and paying two credit checks (one to Ideal and one to the building's management company) Ideal immediately refunded their credit check no questions asked. Both my boyfriend and I went through brokers before and found this office to be working hard for their fee. They seem to understanding how taxing it can be to find a great place in the city and were excited to help. It's also a small office with young, hungry agents who talk to you on your level. I would give five stars but we found the apartment on the first day of looking so our relationship with the office was very short compared to other posts. Also, I felt they could have gathered more information on the property before we started the application process: avoiding the fronting of two credit check fees, as well as understanding the property's online application process a little better.

Barbara Louka was the most PRO-active realtor we worked with in our long apt search! Barbara Louka at Ideal is great. She works the Brooklyn / Park Slope area for the most part. Barbara got a good idea of what we were looking for quickly and didn't waste our time with things we didn't really want to see. She also was very goood at dispensing advice about potential negotiation tactics. So many brokers don't bother to do this and just tell you to accept things at face value. She also never gave us the line of "Well, this is New York. That [whatever reasonable thing you are looking for] doesn't exist." She worked the ol' mainframe to crank out some things that could work. Iman Inde, you`re amazing! We only had a month to find an ideal place; one that we wanted to stay in for a good few years. Our last place was found last-minute with an *other* realty group and we settled for not-so great (bug infestations, slumlords, the works). Originally I`d called another agent from Ideal one morning after being frustrated with other realty groups and dishonest people. In no more than an hour, Ideal Properties had Iman call me - on his lunch hour - letting me know that he`d be able to show me places that afternoon. Kind, honest and interested, he discussed with me what mine and my husband`s ideal place would look like, the price, the location, etc. Iman showed me apartments only within our price range and all beyond our expectations. My husband and I had the real pleasure of having our tenant apartment rented this month by Rob, salesperson from Ideal Properties. The entire process took maybe a week, not only because the customer loved the apartment, but because Rob kept on top of the entire process, which even included a second visit at the customer`s request. We were surprised to find that the final paperwork was done by Rob at nine in the night (on a very rainy evening), which encompassed for him a trip to the client in DUMBO and then to Park Slope to deliver us the lease. We didn`t ask for this extra attention-we could have waited until morning-but he gave it anyway. Of all the agencies we listed with, as well as listing on Craigslist, Ideal Properties brought more people to look at the apartment more than any other venue-by far! My agent, Iman Inde, did a wonderful job showing me a number of apartments suited to my budget and specifications, and ultimately I landed on a 1BR right off the park that is delightful. Unlike other brokerages I've dealt with in the past, Ideal was honest, laid back, and genuinely helpful for an apartment search conducted on very short notice. There was no pressure to jump on an apartment except when (real) competing offers existed, and Iman took the extra step of ferrying me back and forth in the Slope for viewings and also to get things done. Rents, neighborhoods, and apartments are all actually as described, which is not always the case with some of the more fly-by-night brokerage operations. Communications back and forth with Iman were consistent and solid, which was essential since I am constantly on the road for work and had to do parts of the lease-signing process from DC. Ideal takes the standard (painful) New York commission of 12-15%, but they run a legitimate operation, offering a transparent experience and some real value if you're looking to get your search done in a hurry, with cost a more secondary concern. I do wish there was some more leverage / bargaining power with the management companies they work with, since there were some annoying hoops to jump through in my lease process. However, these hoops are all too typical for the New York market, so for what it's worth, Iman / Ideal Properties helped me navigate that market very comfortably and conveniently.

EXPERTISE GALORE--THESE PEOPLE KNOW ... what they`re doing! We just rented a two bedroom in Brooklyn Heights! Having gone through a number of irrelevant searches with other firms, we stumbled upon Ideal Properties on Craigslist. Their agent, Mike, was helpful, always on time, and returned our calls promptly.
